Almost Christmas

Ah, never enough time in the day!

I still have tons 'o stuff to do...wrap presents, buy holiday show tickets, reconfigure the Christmas tree...(it turns out the kittens are natural climbers of unnatural trees...)

Anyway, just wanted to check in quickly, as the rest of my holiday season will probably be without an internet connection.

Happy holidays!

Gridlock

I've just checked msn.com and am so surprised that the NYC transit worker's strike is not even on there! Yes, all of our transportation employees-bus drivers, subway conductors and station personnel walked off the job at about 3 this morning after contract negotiations broke down with the Metropolitian Transit Authority. As being someone who is now part of a union, I totally understand and support what the TWU is doing and hope that the MTA decides to use some of their literal billion-dollar surplus to reward the people that make it possible for the city of NY to run smoothly every day.

Onto other things...my friend Amy is due to arrive in NY tomorrow and between plans with her, Michael, work and my family, my Christmas week is going to be packed! Since Christmas is on a weekend this year, we don't get off as much time as in the past, so I'm trying to be organized about what I do with the spare moments.

Amy is spending her first couple of days with friends on Long Island, so I won't see her until Friday (Saturday?). Saturday night is Christmas Eve service, probably at Marble Church. Sunday is Christmas Day, and we'll most likely do church again at some other church so we can see as much as possible. Monday is still unplanned, but possibly at matinee of some Broadway show with tickets from the TXTS booth will be in order. Tuesday I have to go to work. Yes, work. After work, I think we will be going to dinner somewhere. Wednesday after work (again) we may have to head to a museum, then have dinner with Michael and maybe see another show. Thursday morning she is already heading back to Texas and Michael and I have a special evening planned to celebrate our own Christmas and our 10-month anniversary, which is on the 28th.

After that, it looks like I'll be heading upstate to see the family. The big trains that work for Metro-North are apparently still running...if not, I'll have to look into renting a car.

Anyway, so far, everything is okay. I just have a lot on my plate to deal with. Updates as they happen...

Monday

I guess it's time for another quick update. This is quick because not much new has happened, so there's not much to say.

Lena is still fine. She will be going to get her stitches out very soon.

Plans for Christmas are in the works. We have less time off then last year, seeing as how actual Christmas Day is on a weekend this time around, so all in all, we have about a week and a half off to play.

During that time, I have to work 3 days at the Saturday school, see my family, have Christmas with Michael and celebrate our 10-month anniversary and pal around with my good frind Amy, who is also in desperate need of a break.

I have also already seen 2 of the movies on my list:
HP and the GOF was excellent! I was thrilled at how extensive the detail was, and a tiny bit shocked at the lack of preamble this movie employed. In other words, if you haven't been keeping up until this point, there is not a lengthy introduction to get you caught up.

I was so excited that I went right home and started rereading "Order of thePhoenix." And then, I came to school on Friday and one of my kids lent me his copy of "Half-Blood Prince." Seeing as how I had no other pressing plans, I spent all day yesterday reading and am now completely anxious to find out what happens next. Too bad I should be settling in for the next year or so....

I also saw Rent, which was also great. However, I do not think it overshadowed the B-way show, which everyone who likes the movie should definitely see. However, I loved seeing the original characters in "their element" and really traipsing around NYC. The City rocks!!

Anyhoo, still have to get through the rest of the day. Can't wait for Christmas break!
